Specific Systems' design affords maximum flexibility, greater efficiency, and is substantially lighter in weight than the standard family of military horizontal and vertical air conditioners of equal capacity. The Specific Systems MAC 60 series units are designed to optimize performance under the greater sensible load conditions characteristic of today’s highly integrated electronic shelter systems. The MAC 60 series offers significantly greater air flow and has greater static pressure capability than most standard military units, due to the use of backwardly inclined air flow evaporator fan systems. An additional benefit of the backwardly inclined air foil supply fan as well as the multi-wing axial flow air foil condenser fan is that they exhibit much lower sound levels than the type normally found on other military units.
Specific Systems modular MAC 60 series has a complete list of accessories including washable filters, remote control panel, canvas covers, RFI filters, fresh air inlet filters, HEPA filters, shelter mounting frames, and an RFI filter box for the remote control panel.
The Specific Systems modular design also allows a new unit configuration, the Slimline. This arrangement offers the least amount of extension from the shelter wall. Due to their light weight, All MAC 60 units, and this mounting arrangement in particular, normally require much less of a mounting bracket. This smaller and lighter mounting bracket further increases the overall weight savings gained through use of the Specific Systems product.
The 60 series modular units minimize downtime, with the rapid replacement of a module at field level being less than one hour. The modular concept not only allows different style units to be built by arranging modules in various configurations; the modular concept requires many less spares for support since the modules and components used in several configurations of a model size are identical and cross replaceable. Therefore spares for a vertical unit (including the modules) will fit a horizontal unit, and so on. This concept can reduce the necessary spares in one area many fold.
All MAC 60 series have hot gas bypass systems. Hot gas injected into the cooling circuit prevents coil icing and avoids operating a compressor at a lower suction pressure than it was designed to because it limits minimum evaporating pressure during periods of low load. This feature is very important when sensitive electronic/computer equipment is to be operated in the shelter. Compressors are designed to run continuously while cycling the liquid line solenoid valve for close temperature regulation. This also helps in elimination of electrical spikes caused by starting and stopping the compressor in response to cooling load.
Specific Systems’ MAC 60 series units are designed to start and operate at very low ambient conditions. Condensing pressure in the unit is controlled by a head pressure control valve. As the ambient temperature drops, this valve backs up liquid refrigerant liquid into a receiver. This reduces the condensing capacity and eliminates the need for many components (such as condenser fan cycling switches and dampers) that can fail. All of these features provide true starting capabilities, even at extremely low ambient temperatures.
