Specific Systems announced today that it will be exhibiting one of its new ATEX certified InPac industrial air conditioning systems at the Offshore Energy 2011 Trade Show and Conference in Amsterdam. The showing, which takes place October 11 and 12, 2011, is brought about through an alliance with Dutch company STAHL Electromach. The unit will be displayed at Electromach’s booth, number 215, at the Amsterdam RAI. The InPac unit being shown is the same that was displayed at the Offshore Europe show in Aberdeen, Scotland, earlier this month.

The packaged wall-mounted system being shown features a hazardous Class 1, Division/Zone 2 explosion proof design with built-in automatic purge and pressurization, corrosion-resistant coils, and Specific Systems’ standard dual refrigeration circuit. Further, it integrates explosion-proof damper controllers for increased air control during purge, as well as chemical filtration for use during normal operation. Manufactured in Tulsa using 16-gauge stainless steel, the ATEX certified unit incorporates a STAHL Electromach CUBEx enclosure to house the purge components. The ATEX certified InPac units are similar in design to the standard InPac series, but use IECEx components to meet international electrical safety standards.

Specific Systems has been working with STAHL Electromach to ensure that the unit meets all necessary standards, and to ensure the certification of the entire InPac product line.

Intertek, an ANAB accredited registrar that is a leading provider of testing and quality audits for several industries, assessed Specific Systems against the requirements for consistent quality assurance.

For Specific Systems, the ISO 9001:2008 certification is a significant step in maintaining a leadership position in the industry. “We are proud to have achieved this certification,” says President Mike Bolick. “The certification encompasses the hard work by our employees in constantly improving both ourselves and our products, as well as providing our customers with the products and service they need.” Specific Systems began the hard work of achieving the certification early this year.

The compressors included in this phaseout are the compressors Specific Systems has used for R-22 circuits. However, because Specific Systems began its phaseout of R-22 well in advance of the mandated ban, we should not be affected by this timeline. Any existing stock of R-22 can still be used for service and repair purposes.

All new orders placed with Specific Systems will use an alternate refrigerant, generally R-410A, though other refrigerants such as R-407C are also available for certain applications. Emerson Climate Technologies bulletin also indicated that R-407C variations of these compressors will be phased out by September 30, 2011. Specific Systems will work with Emerson Climate Technologies to ensure a swift transition to newer and more efficient compressors for our units as that phaseout draws near.

R-410A, a more efficient and non–ozone-depleting refrigerant, has quickly positioned itself as the industry standard refrigerant because of its inherent properties. Because it is near-azeotropic, R-410A can be handled more safely than other refrigerants, and it has a much greater range of useful temperatures than many alternatives.
