Third-party certified cooling equipment for critical infrastructure, including hazardous environments

From landslides and cave-ins to explosions, mining contains many of the most potentially hazardous environments in any industry. Extracting resources from the ground creates an extremely dusty environment. In many cases, the fine powder can collect in areas around buildings and electrical equipment enclosures. Caution must be used to ensure minimal or no ingress of those fine particles into the buildings and enclosures. Our InPac® units can help ensure you are meeting the safety requirements for surface installations as well as improve the life of costly components through corrosion resistance.

To combat this harsh atmosphere, we offer an option package specifically for mining applications.

  • General purpose pressurization package to maintain building pressure at 0.1” w.c. (25 pa). This helps stops general migration of outside contaminants
  • R-134a for high temperature applications up to 130°F (55°C)
  • Add-on filtration to improve indoor air quality

Key Features & Benefits for Mining Applications

Corrosion Resistance Options

Downtime is costly - Specific Systems helps keep Your Business Running

  • 16-gauge powdercoated galvanized steel or 316 stainless steel cabinets
  • Corrosion resistant coil coatings (SpecificCoat, Heresite, Technicoat, or Ecoat)
  • Lead lag controls reduce wear on mechanical components

Particulate Filtration Options

  • UL 508A Listed electrical panels for safety

Recommended Options for Potash Facilities

Potash mines are one of the most corrosive environments on the planet. Any exposed aluminum quickly turns to powder, and dust is so prevalent in the air builds up rapidly in filtration systems.

Industrial Cooling for an Extremely Corrosive Environment

To meet the specialized needs of these critical components of infrastructure, we offer pre-engineered option packages for buildings and enclosures including the following features and benefits.

Corrosion resistance

  • 16-gauge stainless steel with all stainless steel fasteners
  • Aluminum-free corrosion resistant condenser coating
  • Corrosion resistant coil coatings (SpecificCoat, Heresite, Technicoat or Ecoat)
  • Corrosion resistant cabinet and component coatings
  • NEMA-4X rated enclosures where necessary to protect sensitive electrical components

Air Filtration

  • Multi-stage outside air filtration system including MERV-8 pre-filters and MERV-14 final filters. Optional MERV-11 third stage of filtration for the dustiest environments. Filtration can be upgraded to MERV-16 or greater efficiencies.
  • MERV-8 return air filter
  • Condenser air intake filters are available for additional protection of components exposed to the environment

Specific Systems' environmental control systems provide durable cooling even in the most extreme environments.

Keeping particulate matter out of buildings is a safety concern for employees and a financial concern even in unmanned enclosures such as drive houses. A variety of filtration options coupled with pressurization helps stop ingress of contaminants before they become an issue.

Recommended Options

Reverse Airflow

For efficiency of operation, most VFDs are designed to pull cool air from down low and exhaust it into the air above. Reverse airflow units work on the same principle, allowing easy ducting of return air directly to the HVAC system. If the building is on piers as they often are in mining operations, another option is to tie supply air directly to the VFDs through ductwork under the building, while exhausting the VFD directly out of the building and leaving the return air unducted.

N+1 Redundancy

Along with our inherent 50% redundancy, critical applications need full reassurance that a process will not shut down in the event of a unit failure. Including an additional complete unit on the building will further minimize the potential for downtime, as well as help improve the life of the systems themselves through a lead-lag multiplexor that automatically rotates which units are in use.
